Kim Ferraro receipient of a "Leadership in Law" award by the Indiana Lawyer!
At a ceremony in Indianapolis on May 5, 2009, LEAF's Executive Director, Kim Ferraro was one of 15 Indiana lawyers honored as an "Up and Coming Lawyer" for her contribution to the legal profession and community. Rebecca Collier, Editor and Publisher of the Indiana Lawyer, stated that the "awards were created to cast a spotlight on the kinds of folks that people look up to both inside and outside the profession."

LEAF helps long-suffering neighbors take industrial recycler to federal court.

On April 16, LEAF filed a notice of intent to sue VIM Recycling, Inc. of Elkhart for violations of the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. The Act prohibits open dumping and handling solid waste in ways that present imminent and substantial endangerment to health and the environment. The Notice prompted EPA to investigate and issue a Notice of Violation. LEAF Provides Oversight of Enforcement Changes at IDEM
Through an anonymous source, LEAF learned of IDEM's surreptitious decisions to eliminate its office of enforcement, revise its Enforcement Response Policy and eliminate funding for local air authorities. LEAF notified the media to allow for necessary public scrutiny, informed and met with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and submitted public comments outlining the legal conerns for IDEM's proposed Compliance and Enforcement Response Policy.
